Our Programs

1. Education

Education is a fundamental human right that is essential for personal and social development, economic growth, and sustainable development. DARO  play a critical role in promoting education, particularly in disadvantaged and marginalized communities, where access to quality education is limited.

2. Water, Sanitation and Infrastructure

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, is a crucial area of focus for us. WASH programs aim to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in communities that lack these necessities, particularly in low-income and marginalized communities. One of our primary objectives in WASH is to improve access to clean water. We work with communities to build or improve water infrastructure, such as wells, boreholes, and piped water systems.

3. Livelihood and Food Security

Food security and sustainable livelihoods are critical components of human development and well-being. They are interconnected facets that ensure individuals and communities can access sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to maintain a healthy life. We play a role in addressing these issues by implementing programs and initiatives that enhance food security and promote sustainable livelihoods.

4. Governance

Good governance encompasses the principles of accountability, transparency, participation, and rule of law. We are keen on promoting good governance by advocating for systemic reforms, fostering civic engagement, and holding institutions accountable.

5. Agriculture

The Sesame Demonstrations Plot Project, implemented by Development Aid Service & Research Organization (DARO) within the framework of the GEEL program supported by USAID, aimed to bolster sesame production in Somalia. The project’s primary objectives were to identify high-yielding sesame varieties and to enhance agricultural practices through training and demonstration plots. Despite facing various challenges such as civil unrest, inadequate investment, and climatic adversities, Somalia has remarkably increased its sesame production over the years. Recognizing the potential of this crop, the Growth Enterprise Employment and Livelihoods (GEEL) program, funded by USAID and implemented by Development Aid Service & Research Organization (DARO), embarked on a mission to enhance the sesame sector’s competitiveness.
